April marks the return of some sunshine and warm temperature to the Portland area and ZamZam Sounds has been hard at work to ready their next releases.
ZamZam Sounds #37 comes from none other than a veteran in the Portland bass/world music/groove music community, Gulls, who runs the the vinyl/tape/digital label "Boomarm Nation." The A side is entitled "Water Creature," a hypnotizing, groove heavy track that makes you feel like you're on a beach soaking in the sunshine and the good vibes that the warm weather brings. The B Side, entitled "Message to Rogg," is a collaboration with his group, Gulls Rhythm Force, and is an instant addition to any heavy 140 BPM dubwise set. This one is tried and true on a sound system, with a deep bassline and melancholy horns that are soaked in reverb and delay. Limited to 600 copies worldwide.
Gulls also had a recent release on another Portland label, PDXINDUBTING!, a cassette and digital label run by Monkeytek. You can check and support the release over on their Bandcamp.
ZamZam Sounds #38 marks the return of the Bristol badbwoy, Ishan Sound, with a tune entitled, "Rush On The Tonic." His signature pan flute is ever present and he lays down an earth shaking bassline, along with the slap of a spring reverb to really set this one off in a deep, dark, and dubwise direction. The B side features a ruff remix of the A side from the dubplate kings of Portland, badman Alter Echo & ZamZam Sounds co-boss, E3. Bury a soundbwoy 6 feet deep with this one. Limited to 800 copies worldwide.
